Job Type: Full-Time
Location: Charleston Metro, Tri-County Region (Dorchester, Berkeley, and Charleston Counties)
This is a full-time concrete laborer position that supports concrete work across active construction sites in the Lowcountry. Candidates with experience building and setting forms, pouring concrete, and finishing work on sidewalks, curbs, valley gutters, and rip rap are strongly encouraged to apply.
Typical Hours: 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM (hours may vary; evenings and weekends may be required based on project needs)
What You Will Do
As a concrete finisher with O.L. Thompson Construction, your day-to-day work will include the full range of concrete construction tasks from start to finish.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Building and setting forms for sidewalks, curbs, valley gutters, and rip rap
- Pouring and placing concrete accurately and efficiently
- Finishing concrete surfaces to the required specifications
- Working independently and as part of a construction crew
- Following all site safety requirements and supervisor directions
- Performing any additional general construction duties as assigned
What We Are Looking For
We are hiring concrete finishers who are experienced, reliable, and safety-focused. Here is what you need to be considered for this role.
General Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older to work in the field
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
- Must be able to work in all types of weather and conditions, including rain, heat, cold, mud, dirt, dust, humidity, loud environments, and extreme temperatures (weather may alter your work schedule)
- Must wear personal protective gear daily as specified per site, including a hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest, and ear plugs (provided by the company)
- Must provide and wear your own long pants, work-rated boots, and at least a 4-inch sleeve or longer
- Must be able to reliably commute to and from job sites across the Tri-County area on time every day
- Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions in English
- Must be available for some evenings, weekends, and overtime as needed
- Must be able to perform repetitive heavy manual labor, including standing and sitting for long periods, climbing, stooping, bending, twisting, kneeling, and lifting heavy items repeatedly
- Must be safety-conscious and aware of surroundings at all times
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test and ongoing quarterly drug testing
- Background checks and a clean driving record are required for this position
- All new hires will complete a 90-day probationary period
Specific Trade Requirements
- Hands-on experience with concrete as a skilled tradesman is required
- Knowledge of concrete work from start to finish, including building forms, pouring concrete, and finishing concrete surfaces
- Experience with building and setting forms for sidewalks, curbs, valley gutters, and rip rap
- Prefer that you bring your own hand tools for carpentry and masonry work
- Must have a valid driver’s license or REAL ID and a clean background (this crew regularly accesses secure sites and may occasionally work nights)
- Must be aware of vehicular traffic exposure on job sites and maintain caution and situational awareness at all times
- Must comply with all company policies, procedures, and safety requirements
- Must follow the direction of supervisors and be a team-oriented professional
